Financial Controller (Tax & Finance)

SUMMARY:
The Financial controller is responsible for the Group’s tax compliance and oversight, together with an element of preparation of complex tax computations. Also responsible for the financial management of a small portfolio of companies within the Group. This involves the full financial function for these companies.

Duties:

Group Taxation Responsibilities:

• Updates internal policies relating to Tax.

• Responsible for Group Tax Dashboard compilation and issue resolution

• Responsible for the Group’s tax submissions to relevant Board of Directors sub-committees on inter alia Tax compliance (via the Compliance Risk Management Plan), and proactively highlighting upcoming tax amendments and/or issues.

• Responsible for the identification and implementation of the Group’s tax training to the broader finance team.

• Review of the Group’s entities tax computations, both income tax and deferred tax

• Review of the Group’s entities VAT computations and submissions

• Preparation and review of Carbon Tax submissions within the Group

• Provides guidance and drives the finding of solutions for internal stakeholders (Financial Controllers/Financial Managers/Asset and Property Management/Development) on tax matters/issues.

• Responsible for liaising with external tax consultants on complex tax matters • Ensures Group compliance with Tax Administration Act, and relevant SARS guidelines.

• Responsible for registration and required deregistration of tax profiles.

• Responsible for management of the Group entities’ administrative function on efiling/SARS profile

• Manages Group response to SARS queries/audit, inclusive of preparation and/or review of submission documentation.

• Responsible for the improvement and implementation of Group Tax processes and procedures 

Taxation responsibilities with reference to entities where responsible for financial management:

• Preparation of income and deferred taxation calculations.

• Review and preparation of provisional tax calculations.

• Preparation of Controlled Foreign Company tax calculation (s9D of the Income Tax Act) • Preparation of monthly VAT calculations.

• Annual update of internal Transfer Pricing Policy

• Country by Country reporting for Transfer Pricing purposes

• Submission of all relevant returns to SARS.

• Ensure timeous payment to SARS for all relevant submitted returns.

• Adherence to SARS and internal deadlines.

• Follow up and deal with all SARS queries and ensure they are resolved timeously. 

Operational Financial Processing

• Manages the financial reconciliation process between ledger and sub ledger.
• Explains reconciled items and variances.
• Ensures that accruals are raised and reversed. (Complete and accurate)  Monitors and authorises journals.
• Calculates property management fee as well as asset management fee.  Manages full debtors and creditors function.
• Preparation of financial information and schedules for monthly management packs and/or reporting. Ensuring all numbers are accurate and complete and reconciling back to general and sub ledger

Requirements:

• BCom degree and H.Dip.Tax or similar post-graduate tax qualification;
• Registered SARS Tax Practitioner
• 2-3 years’ experience in a similar role
• Relevant tax experience is essential.
• Previous experience in the property industry will be advantageous.
