SUMMARY:
We are seeking a Group Accountant to take ownership of the full accounting, reporting, and compliance function across multiple entities within the group. This role requires a detail-oriented professional who can deliver accurate, timely financial information and support informed business decision-making.

POSITION INFO:
Reporting to the Financial Manager, responsibilities will include:

Financial Control & Reporting

Lead the month-end process, ensuring the General Ledger is accurately processed through to Trial Balance
Prepare and post journals across multiple group entities
Review GLs and Trial Balances, ensuring completeness and adherence to reporting deadlines
Perform and review balance sheet reconciliations
Manage intercompany accounts and ensure accurate balancing
Maintain and monitor control accounts
Oversee and ensure the accuracy of fixed asset registers
Identify inefficiencies and implement process improvements

Management Reporting

Prepare monthly management accounts within set deadlines
Compile and review supporting schedules
Analyse financial results and provide insights on variances
Produce detailed expense analysis and reporting on cost drivers

Working Capital Management

Oversee accounts receivable, including weekly reporting and follow-ups
Manage accounts payable processes
Review and approve payment runs

Tax & Compliance

Ensure accurate and timely preparation of VAT, income tax, and provisional tax
Oversee submission and payment of all tax obligations
Prepare annual financial statements
Support the audit process, including preparation of supporting schedules and resolving queries
Manage company secretarial requirements, including statutory submissions
Assist with group tax administration and BEE verification processes

Team Leadership

Manage and develop a small finance team (2 Bookkeepers and 1 Cashbook Administrator)
Oversee performance, training, and ongoing development

Requirements

BCom Accounting or equivalent
Registered or eligible to register as an AGA(SA) or SAIPA/SAICA professional
Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar accounting role
Strong understanding of IFRS and ability to apply accounting principles
Solid knowledge of tax legislation (VAT and Income Tax)
Advanced Excel skills
Experience with accounting systems such as Accpac or Pastel
