Head of Architecture

SUMMARY:
My client is looking for a seasoned architecture leader to own and shape the future of a high‑volume payments platform. This is a role for someone who wants massive technical impact, hands‑on influence, and the chance to guide an expert team. POSITION INFO:

In this role, the successful candidate will take full ownership of architectural direction for a mission‑critical payments ecosystem processing billions of transactions across Southern Africa. They’ll lead a small, highly capable team of three architects while staying deeply involved in technical design, patterns, and decision‑making.
Working alongside developers, solution architects, and business stakeholders, they’ll ensure all architecture meets demanding standards for scalability, performance, and security. This role offers the opportunity to drive complex, high‑impact initiatives across multiple countries, ideal for someone who wants strategic influence paired with hands‑on engineering depth.

Skills & Experience:
Extensive experience in payment systems, especially retail transaction processing
Strong technical foundation; software development or solution architecture background advantageous
Ability to translate business needs into scalable, modular, secure solutions
Strong analytical and communication skills
Experience leading or mentoring technical teams (even small, high‑maturity teams)

Qualification:
Tertiary qualification in Computer Science or related field preferred
Demonstrated experience in retail payments or transaction processing
Exposure to software development, testing practices, or enterprise architecture desirable
