SUMMARY:
The Head of IT is responsible for the execution and implementation of the IT and digital strategy of the Business Unit. The role is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the Business Unit’s IT and digital discipline to improve infrastructure costs, performance of the function, end-user satisfaction and support technology innovation.

Key deliverables and outputs

  1. Provides leadership in planning and overseeing the entire IT operations and environment for the Business Unit in conjunction with the various shared services functions.
  2. Implements and executes the organisation’s IT and digital strategy in alignment with the Business Unit’s specific operational goals, supports technology innovation and defines the detailed IT roadmap for the Business
  3. Manages the business unit’s IT and digital spend and budget in line with business processes and performance
  4. Manages IT and digital resource requirements to ensure appropriate balance between tactical and strategic demands in support of successful fulfilment of IT service delivery
  5. Deploys new technology and systems for the Business Unit with the support of the shared services
  6. Ensures systems performance and service level requirements are
  7. Builds and manages strategic internal and external stakeholders and business
  8. Ensures adherence to governance, risk and compliance controls in support of the committed performance metrics and to ensure value delivery to the Business Unit.
  9. Responds to the business continuity and technology availability requirements of the Business
  10. Is responsible for driving and contracting the development of applications with associated quality assurance services and management of the Business Unit’s applications
  11. Is responsible for driving and contracting infrastructure planning, engineering and deployment for the Business
  12. Manages the IT customer relations for the Business Unit.
  13. Is responsible for the implementation and tracking of risk mitigations identified through amongst others IT assessments, IT audits or regulatory requirements within the Business Unit.

  • The Chief Digital Officer and Business Unit Chief Executive
  • IT and digital leadership team and staff
  • Business Unit executives
  • Organisational executive leadership teams (across all business functions)

External stakeholders

  • Relationship management of Business Unit-specific Third Party Suppliers and Partners
  • Relationship management of the Business Unit’s customers

Academic qualifications

 

Essential:

 

·        Bachelor’s degree in IT degree

·        Honours degree in IT

 

Advantageous:

·        Master’s degree in IT or MBA

·        ITIL certification


Work experience

 

Essential:

 

·        7 – 10 years’ practical experience in the field of IT with at least 3 years in a leadership role

·        Proven track record of experience in at least 2 of the following disciplines: managing IT operations; infrastructure; projects; business analysis and application development and implementation.

·        Demonstrable experience of a strong drive for implementing IT governance in order to ensure IT and business alignment.

·        Experience in improving operational efficiency and service delivery effectiveness.

·        Experience in management of IT budgets, finances and resources.


Knowledge

 

Essential:

·       Deep knowledge of new technology offerings and trends.

·       Very strong interest and understanding of the latest IT business trends, including digital innovations.

·       Advanced knowledge of business operations and processes.

·       Thorough understanding of ITIL to assist with driving excellence in service delivery and management

·       Good understanding of IT Governance principles together with customer and business relationship management to drive alignment between the business unit and IT

·       Strong leadership capability

·       Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technology solutions in business terms, establish rapport and persuade others.

·       Effective negotiation skills at all levels (externally and internally).

·       Highly developed interpersonal skills to network effectively, handle conflict, including sensitivity to diversity.

·       Advanced critical, conceptual and creative thinking and problem-solving skills to spot trends, identify new technology developments, perform in-depth analysis of business technology requirements.

·       Complex numeric reasoning skills to draw logical conclusions from for numerical information.

·       Ability to multi-task.
