Head of Sales - Commercial

SUMMARY:
You will be responsible for leading and executing the sales strategy to drive revenue growth, market expansion and profitability in RSA and Africa.

POSITION INFO:

The role provides end-to-end commercial leadership - covering go-to-market execution, team performance, product commercialisation, pipeline discipline, and the alignment of sales activity to business sustainability.

This is not a sales management role, it is a commercial leadership role. You must be capable of building the structure, driving the strategy, developing the team, and delivering the numbers - in a business where commercial execution must now match the strength of the product, with a disciplined focus on sustainable profitability.

This is a rare chance to lead the commercial engine of a serious energy business at exactly the moment it needs to scale with discipline. The company has strong underlying product and IP foundations, a real installed base, and credible parthways to growth - including expanding export markets - but the next phase requires commercial rigour and a sales engine that protects margin while scaling revenue.

Requirements:

• Minimum of 7 - 10 years in commercial or sales leadership, with at least 3 years at a senior or head-of-function level.
• Proven, hands on experience selling in the RSA market in energy, electrical or related infrastructure sectors. Adjacent B2B distribution sectors - HVAC, industrial equipment - will be considered where you can demonstrate rapid market adaptability
• A track record of building, structuring and managing a sales team with measurable performance outcomes - not just carrying the team personally
• A relevant tertiary qualification in business, commerce, engineering, or a related field
• Postgraduate qualification is advantageous
• Practical CRM proficiency - the ability to design a pipeline, not just use one.

Strongly preferred:

• Experience in a growth-stage or owner managed business where systems and structure had to be built, not inherited
• Exposure to B-BBEE commercial requirements as applyied to deal-making and tender qualifications in South Africa
• An existing, active network of customers, installers, EPCs, distributors or channel partners in SA
• Demonstrated experience managing a marketing function as part of a commercial leadership brief
