Motsoeneng Bill is a national, award-winning professional services firm that provides integrated Legal, Advisory and Forensic services to private sector organisations, organs of state, state-owned entities, municipalities and individuals across South Africa. We are seeking a Legal Messenger to join the MB Team in Houghton.

POSITION INFO:
What we are looking for: We are looking for a reliable, well-organised Legal Messenger who will play a vital role in supporting the efficient operations of MB. The successful candidate will be responsible for the efficient and secure delivery and collection of legal documents, court papers and correspondence between MB, the courts, the Sheriff, the Deeds Office, banks, and other institutions, while upholding the confidentiality and professionalism expected of the firm. Given the nature of MB's practice, the successful candidate must hold a valid driver's license for a motor vehicle as well as a valid license for a motorcycle and be comfortable using both modes of transport interchangeably depending on operational requirements. Key responsibilities Deliver and collect legal documents, pleadings, files and correspondence to and from courts, the Sheriff's offices, the Deeds Office, banks, clients and other relevant institutions, using a motor vehicle or motorcycle as required. File and serve legal documents at the relevant courts and institutions within prescribed timeframes, ensuring compliance with applicable procedural requirements. Maintain accurate and up-to-date delivery and collection registers, ensuring proper record-keeping and proof of service for all documents handled. Liaise closely with attorneys, candidate attorneys and support staff to prioritise urgent deliveries and collections and communicate any delays or complications promptly. Handle all documentation with the utmost confidentiality and care, given the sensitive nature of legal and client information. Ensure the assigned motor vehicle and motorcycle are kept roadworthy, clean and properly maintained, and report any mechanical concerns timeously. Minimum requirements Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent qualification. A valid Code B (motor vehicle) driver's license. A valid Code A (motorcycle) license. Previous experience as a messenger or driver, preferably within a law firm or professional services environment. A clean driving record, with no endorsements or convictions relating to reckless or negligent driving. Willingness to work outside normal business hours where operational requirements demand. Desirable (but not essential) Sound working knowledge of the Johannesburg CBD and greater Johannesburg area, including courts, the Sheriff's offices, the Deeds Office and SARS branches. A valid Professional Driving Permit (PDP). Basic understanding of court and legal filing procedures. Basic mechanical knowledge for routine vehicle and motorcycle checks. Technical & behavioural competencies. Punctual, reliable and able to work independently with minimal supervision. Trustworthy and discreet, given the confidential nature of the documents handled. Strong time-management skills and the ability to plan efficient delivery and collection routes. Good communication skills and a professional, courteous manner when representing MB.
