Marketing Content Writer and Web Designer

SUMMARY:
The MECAD Group is a South African reseller of CAD, CAM, FEA, CFD and nesting software, and also provides engineering consulting and recruitment services. We are looking for a content writer and web designer who can turn technical product information and customer experience into content that ranks in search engines, gets cited by AI answer engines and generates enquiries from engineers, designers and manufacturers.

You will report directly to the Marketing Manager.

POSITION INFO:
Looking for a suitable candidate who can turn technical product information and customer experience into content that ranks in search engines, gets cited by AI answer engines and generates enquiries from engineers, designers and manufacturers. Responsibilities: Content writing Write clear, accurate and persuasive copy for web pages, landing pages, email campaigns, newsletters, social media, digital ads and press releases. Write customer stories: interview engineers, production managers and business owners at South African manufacturers, document the problem, solution and measurable results and manage customer approval and consent in line with POPIA. Write blog posts and technical articles based on input from our application engineers and other staff. Proofread and edit your own and contributed content for accuracy and brand voice. Write from first-hand expertise and real customer input first, then use AI tools only to polish grammar, structure, headlines and keywords. Review all AI output for accuracy, brand voice and UK English before publishing. Search and discoverability (SEO, SXO, AEO and GEO) Understand and apply E-E-A-T principles to all digital content as the foundation for being cited by AI search engines. Conduct a full technical and on-page SEO audit of all Group websites and fix the issues identified, including crawlability, indexing, canonicals, redirects, sitemaps, robots.txt and page speed. Conduct keyword and search intent research, including local and regional terms, using available tools, then create keyword-to-page mapping. Conduct competitor, SERP and content gap analysis and recommend new pages and articles. Optimise titles, meta descriptions, headings, URLs, image alt text and internal linking. Design intent-driven content architecture: map deep user intent and structure content into clean, logical sections that AI systems can easily understand, extract and cite. Create and apply an answer-focused, question-based content strategy, including FAQ and conversational content. Implement schema markup, structured data, semantic HTML and mobile optimisation so search engines and AI crawlers understand all Group websites. Audit, rewrite and optimise existing and legacy page copy so it reads naturally, clearly communicates what we do, targets the right search intent and performs in both traditional and AI-driven search. Build authority through off-page SEO, relevant backlinks, digital PR and high-trust brand mentions on third-party news sites, forums and other channels that AI search engines use as citation sources. Set up and review Google Search Console, GA4 and Google Tag Manager, including proper tracking and reporting. Track rankings, organic traffic, AI-search visibility and brand mentions in Google Search Console, GA4 and SEO tools (e.g. Semrush), report weekly and update underperforming pages. Maintain the company's Google Business Profile listings. Web design Design new pages and websites and redesign existing ones with user experience as the priority: clear navigation, mobile-first layout and fast load times. Build and maintain pages in our CMS (WordPress). Create wireframes and mock-ups in Figma or similar tools. Monitor and improve Core Web Vitals, basic accessibility (WCAG) and conversion elements such as forms and calls to action. Ensure website forms, cookie notices and privacy notices comply with POPIA. Marketing and administration Work with the rest of the marketing team to plan and run campaigns, including but not limited to product launches, webinars, training promotions and trade shows. Help organise and attend events. Perform administrative tasks such as maintaining the content calendar, asset library, CRM records and event registrations. Requirements: Diploma or degree in marketing, journalism, communications, digital media or a related field. Minimum 5 years' experience in content writing and web design or website management, preferably in B2B or technical industries. A portfolio with live URLs and writing samples, including at least one technical or B2B article and one customer story or case study. Demonstrable SEO results, such as improved rankings or organic traffic growth. Excellent working knowledge of WordPress (or similar CMS), HTML and CSS, GA4, Google Search Console, Google Tag Manager and schema markup. Excellent written English (UK) and strong interviewing skills. Valid driver's licence and own transport for customer site visits and events. Curious about how products are designed and made, and comfortable asking engineers detailed questions. Turns complex technical information into clear, practical content. Communicates effectively with engineers, sales staff, customers and management. Performs well in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Escalates issues to management early and appropriately so they are resolved before they grow. Follows company policies, procedures and systems.
