Operational Accountant

SUMMARY:
Drive operations through finance. Influence decisions beyond the numbers.

POSITION INFO:
This is not a back-office accounting role focused purely on reporting. The successful candidate will step into a highly operational finance position where accounting, business operations, stock, and commercial decision-making intersect.

The client is looking for a hands-on Operations Accountant who understands how finance impacts the day-to-day running of a business. You will work closely with operational teams, support business efficiencies, and provide financial insight that directly contributes to performance and profitability.

This opportunity is ideal for a commercially minded finance professional who enjoys being involved operationally, solving problems proactively, and partnering with the business beyond traditional accounting responsibilities.

Based in Johannesburg North

Key Responsibilities:
Support operational and financial decision-making across the business
Prepare monthly management accounts and operational reporting
Analyse operational costs, margins, and business performance
Monitor stock, inventory, and working capital movements
Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
Identify process improvements and cost-saving initiatives
Partner with operational departments to improve efficiencies
Assist with financial controls, reconciliations, and reporting accuracy
Provide support during audits and compliance processes

Job Experience and Skills Required:
BCom Accounting essential (National Diploma considered for exceptional candidates)
3 – 8 years’ experience within an operational or commercial finance environment

Strong operational finance and business partnering exposure
Experience within stock-driven, operational, distribution, manufacturing, or business operations environments advantageous
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
Advanced Excel skills essential
Ability to engage confidently with operational teams and management
