JOB DESCRIPTION:

Our client in the Trailer industry is seeking a Production Manager (Parts)  to join their organization based in Pretoria.

 

Requirements:

  • Matric or Trade Certificate (essential).
  • Tertiary qualification: National Diploma or B.Tech - Production or Industrial Engineering (preferred).
  • Other Qualifications: Project Management (beneficial).
  • Computer Literacy: MS Office (essential).
  • Integrated systems knowledge.
  • ERP systems knowledge.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes/engineering.
  • More than 5 years’ experience in similar role.
  • Experience in high volume vehicle production process in a JIT (Just-in- time) environment (essential).
  • Applicable experience as a Production/Operational Manager in a medium/large Company (essential).
  • Experience in manufacturing and/or engineering industries (beneficial).
  • 5 - 10 years’ experience in a supervisory position (+/- 300 staff) preferably in an engineering/trailer
  • manufacturing environment.
  • Extensive knowledge of production planning functions.
  • Excellent planning, implementation, management, control, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Decisiveness, organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize multiple functions to meet required deadlines.
  • Well-rounded understanding of the custom manufacturing space with previous hands-on leadership experience in a manufacturing role.
  • Understand manufacturing equipment needs and capacities.
  • Ability to work with daily/monthly deadlines and time constraints.
  • Able to change priorities and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong mechanical, mathematical and analytical aptitude.
  • Quality focused and principled.
  • Ability to read, write, and interpret documents such as job orders, drawings, safety rules, standard operating procedures, maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals.

 

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Planning:

  • Prepare a complete production plan weekly in advance, present and discuss with Management.
  • Organize, monitor, and control staff, shift allocations and overtime. Manage overtime requests.
  • Optimize capacity planning and processes.
  • Manage staff requirements and direct the production team.
  • Maintain flexibility by managing the different projects and ensure their timeous delivery.
  • Act proactively by identifying, solving and/or reporting unforeseen challenges.
  • Drive process optimization and cost saving initiatives.
  • Liaise with Top Management to maintain a 2-week planning period on all projects.
  • Monitor status of trailers both on order and in reserve.

 

Production:

  • Oversee the production process ensuring that the production is accurate, on time and cost effective.
  • Maintain production targets by ensuring that the required products are delivered daily.
  • Improve the operational systems, processes, and policies in support of organization's mission.
  • Support better management reporting, information flow and management, business process and organizational planning.
  • Effectively manage all product production processes from initial assembly preparation to final fitment.
  • Upgrade and maintain the High-Speed Schedules on a daily base.
  • Monitor, control and ensure completion of all daily tasks within the department.

 

Collaboration:

  • Establish, enhance, and maintain effective communication with 2IC’s, Quality Control/Assurance, Logistics, and other functional areas.
  • Render advice and guidance to the logistics function to ensure effective and efficient supply of materials.
  • Ensure proper signing off of trailers before final signing by Quality Control.
  • Manage the department store and all materials involved.
  • Re-engineer logistical process including provision and control of materials.
  • Log challenges on the Engineering Department reporting system and follow up.

 

Administration and Safety:

  • Manage and report on safety, production, quality, budgets, manpower and industrial relations.
  • Create and ensure safe working conditions at all times.
  • Maintain discipline and adherence to company policies
  • Co-ordinate of different projects flexibly, efficiently, and effectively.
  • Manage, monitor, and control the sign-off schedule.
  • Attend to and sign off all clock cards and process to payroll weekly.
  • Ensure general neatness and organization of the department.
  • Manage and address discipline and general work performance of employees within the department.
  • Manage and monitor tools within the department in liaison with the OHS Manager.
  • Responsible and accountable for all OHS matters within the department.
  • Manage performance, training, and development of staff.
