Research Chemist

SUMMARY:
An established manufacturer of agrochemicals is seeking an experienced Research Chemist to research and formulate new agrochemical and plant nutrition products and to improve formulations of existing products.

Minimum requirements for the role:

• Must have a BSc., Hons or M.Sc. in Chemistry or Formulation Science
• Minimum 2 years’ experience in research and chemical formulations will be required
• Must have previous experience in a chemical production environment
• Must be proficient in MS Office and Syspro would be an added advantage
• General knowledge of Act 36 of 1947 and an understanding of the general agricultural formulations in existence, e.g. EC’s. SC’s. SL’s, WP’s, TB’s, etc. will be required
• A valid driver’s license and own reliable transport are essential

• Researching and formulating new agrochemical and nutrition products as requested by the R&D team.
• Improving formulations of existing products where problems occur or where components in the existing formulations are being phased out.
• Testing alternative raw materials and sources of actives to deliver the best and most stable formulations.
• Investigating new and unique products in the Southern African market, with a focus on less toxic or more effective formulations.
• Conducting research to better understand the efficacy of new and existing products.
• Participating in the registration process by providing the necessary information to be submitted with the registration dossier.
• Participating in the commissioning of newly developed products from research phase to commercial phase.
• Compiling comprehensive reports for all completed projects.
• Liaising with suppliers w.r.t inert ingredients.
• Keeping retention samples for a period of time suitable for the commercialisation of the product.
• Maintaining meticulous records of all work carried out in the development of a product.
• Compiling compressive report on all research findings.
• Participating in the writing of scientific reports for the purpose of publishing or patenting.
• Assisting with production troubleshooting of formulation quality problems.
• Investigating new technology and/or products for the South African market and attending relevant training courses to remain aware of market trends.
• Conducting stability testing on products prior to registration according to FAO specifications and recording all results on a stability report.
• Liaising with the  Field R&D and Formulation Analyst.
• Assisting in training and presenting of newly developed products to the R&D and Marketing team.
• Ensuring adherence to all internal control policies as directed by Management.
• Conforming to relevant SHEQ rules and regulations as per company policy.
