Research & Development Specialist (Product Researcher) 

Our client, operating in the industrial electrical supplies sector, is seeking a dynamic and innovative Research & Development Specialist (Product Researcher) to join their team. This role is responsible for identifying, sourcing, testing, and improving new products and components for the local market. The successful candidate will play a key role in driving innovation while ensuring products meet technical specifications, regulatory requirements, and commercial objectives.

POSITION INFO:
Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct research to identify emerging technologies, market trends, and customer needs within the industrial electrical supplies industry.
• Source and evaluate new electrical products, components, and technologies from local and international suppliers.
• Test prototypes, electrical components, and systems to ensure functionality, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
• Document all stages of the research and development process, including design specifications, testing procedures, sourcing processes, and results.
• Ensure products comply with South African safety standards, regulatory frameworks, and quality requirements.
• Identify opportunities for product improvement, innovation, and cost optimisation.
• Remain up to date with industry developments, product innovations, and technological advancements.
• Prepare technical reports, presentations, and product documentation for management and stakeholders.
• Act as a liaison between the technical department and suppliers to ensure product compatibility and smooth implementation.
• Translate and interpret technical data sheets from suppliers, ensuring accurate understanding of product specifications and compliance with local standards.

Minimum Requirements

• Formal tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Product Design, Technology, Supply Chain, or a related technical field.
• Minimum 5+ years’ experience as an R&D Specialist, Product Researcher, or in a similar role, preferably within industrial electrical supplies, electrical manufacturing, or related technical industries.
