Our client operates within the regulated financial services and payments environment and is seeking an experienced Risk & Compliance Officer to join the business on a half-day \/ part-time basis. This is not a junior compliance administration role. The successful candidate will function as a trusted advisor to management and directors, providing practical guidance on compliance, risk, governance, and regulatory matters across the business. The position requires a seasoned professional who can work independently, identify risks proactively, implement effective controls, and provide practical solutions within regulatory frameworks. A significant focus of the role will be on implementation, staff education, and compliance culture development, ensuring that regulatory requirements are embedded into daily operations rather than simply maintained through documentation. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical knowledge across financial services regulations and payment environments while also demonstrating excellent stakeholder engagement skills and the confidence to engage with senior leadership teams. Key Responsibilities: Act as the Risk & Compliance subject matter expert across the business. Monitor and ensure compliance with applicable financial services and payments regulations. Develop, implement, and maintain Risk Management and Compliance Programmes (RMCPs). Provide guidance on FICA, FAIS, and broader regulatory compliance requirements. Review contracts, agreements, and business arrangements from a compliance and risk perspective. Conduct ongoing regulatory and compliance monitoring. Develop, review, and implement internal policies, procedures, and controls. Identify, assess, and mitigate operational, regulatory, and compliance risks. Deliver practical compliance training and education to staff on regulatory requirements and internal controls. Support and prepare the business for regulatory reviews, audits, and compliance assessments. Work closely with directors and senior management to provide practical, risk-based solutions. Translate regulatory requirements into effective and sustainable operational processes. Promote a strong compliance culture throughout the organisation. Provide ongoing reporting and recommendations to management regarding emerging risks and compliance developments. Job Experience and Skills Required: Relevant Degree in Risk Management, Auditing, Compliance, Law, or related field. RE1 and RE5 qualifications are essential. Minimum 8+ years of practical Risk and Compliance experience within regulated financial services environments. Experience within the following: Third Party Payment Provider (TPPP) environments. System Operator and\/or payments environments. Financial Services Provider (FSP) environments. FAIS compliance. FICA compliance. Risk Management and Compliance Programmes (RMCPs). Proven experience interacting with regulators, auditors, and compliance reviews. Strong knowledge of regulatory frameworks applicable to financial services and payment industries. Demonstrated experience providing compliance training and implementing compliance frameworks. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Experience engaging and partnering with executive management and directors. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Excellent report writing, communication, and stakeholder management abilities. Entrepreneurial mindset with a practical commercial approach to risk and compliance. Strong academic track record.
