SUMMARY:

A leading life insurance business is seeking a Senior Actuarial Analyst to join its established Life Actuarial team based in Johannesburg North. This role is suited to a nearly or newly qualified Actuary who is technically strong, commercially aware, and eager to take ownership of actuarial models while coaching and mentoring junior analysts.

POSITION INFO:

The position offers exposure across the full actuarial control cycle, close interaction with senior stakeholders and meaningful involvement in pricing, profitability, and strategic decisionâmaking within a stable yet forwardâthinking environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Design, build, deploy, and maintain life insurance actuarial and pricing models across the actuarial control cycle
Lead enhancements to models and systems, including impact, scenario, and sensitivity analysis
Interpret and communicate results related to pricing strategy, profitability, policy growth, VNB, and embedded value
Analyse, validate, and reconcile data from multiple sources to ensure accuracy and robustness
Monitor key performance metrics and identify emerging business trends
Partner with senior stakeholders to support strategic and commercial decisionâmaking
Identify opportunities for process improvement, automation, and innovation
Ensure strong governance, documentation, and compliance with regulatory and professional standards
Coach, mentor, and provide technical guidance to junior actuarial analysts, contributing to team capability and succession

Job Experience and Skills Required:

Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, or a related quantitative field
- Nearly / newly qualified Actuary (minimum 12 exams)
Experience:
- 3+ years' actuarial experience within the financial services or insurance industry (essential)
Skills:
- Strong actuarial modelling and analytical capability
- Experience with pricing, profitability, and experience analysis
- Excellent documentation and process governance skills
- Ability to translate technical results into clear business insight
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
- Coaching and mentoring capability
