Senior Industrial Automation Specialist

SUMMARY:
We are looking for a highly experienced Senior Industrial Automation Specialist to join our branch based in Waterford Western Cape.

POSITION INFO:
The role requires strong technical depth in OT environments, a solid understanding of IT/OT network architecture, and the ability to work confidently across plant, network, and system integration layers.
The successful candidate must be technically strong, pragmatic, and open to expanding their skill set into low-code development platforms as part of broader digitalisation initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, commission, and support industrial automation systems (PLC, SCADA, HMI, DCS)
• Diagnose and resolve complex automation and control system issues
• Understand and support IT/OT network architectures, including segmentation, security zones, and data flow between systems
• Integrate OT systems with higher-level systems (MES, historians, ERP, databases, cloud platforms)
• Collaborate closely with IT, engineering, and operations teams
• Develop working knowledge of low-code platforms to support rapid application development, dashboards, and system integration

• 10+ years’ experience in industrial automation, control systems, or related engineering roles
• Strong hands-on experience with PLCs, SCADA/HMI platforms, and industrial communication protocols
• Solid understanding of IT/OT networking concepts (e.g. Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus, OPC UA, VLANs, firewalls, DMZs)
• Experience working in industrial or manufacturing environments

• Experience with MES, historians, or cloud-connected OT systems
• Exposure to low-code / no-code platforms (e.g. Microsoft Power Platform, Ignition Perspective, Mendix, similar)
• Familiarity with industrial cybersecurity standards (e.g. IEC 62443)
• Project or technical lead experience
