Senior Portfolio Accountant

SUMMARY:
A leading specialist insurance business is looking to appoint a Senior Accountant to take ownership of a portfolio of insurance and reinsurance clients. This role is responsible for the accurate processing, control, and reporting of financial information while partnering closely with portfolio managers, clients, and internal stakeholders.

POSITION INFO:
The position is well suited to a hands-on accounting professional who enjoys portfolio ownership, client interaction, and mentoring junior team members within a regulated insurance environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the full accounting function for a portfolio of insurance cell captive and contingency policy clients
• Ensure accurate, efficient, and timeous processing and reporting of financial transactions
• Prepare, review, and approve journals, payments, reconciliations, and financial reports in line with authority levels and policies
• Compile monthly and year-end reconciliations and resolve accounting discrepancies and queries
• Prepare financial information and documentation for audits and resolve audit queries within agreed deadlines
• Work closely with portfolio managers to support client servicing and portfolio management
• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and internal/external stakeholders
• Manage, review, train, and mentor accountants and junior accountants within the team
• Contribute to system, process, and control improvements to enhance financial management and efficiency
• Participate in special projects and continuous improvement initiatives
• Ensure adherence to internal policies, governance standards, and regulatory requirements

Client & Stakeholder Engagement

• Provide sound financial advice and guidance to clients and stakeholders
• Deliver consistently against agreed service level agreements
• Contribute to a client-centric culture focused on quality service and long-term relationships

Financial Control & Risk

• Monitor and control budgets across allocated portfolios
• Contribute to budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
• Identify and manage high-risk or complex financial issues
• Implement and monitor financial controls to prevent non-compliance or improper conduct

Minimum Requirements

• Diploma in Financial Management or Accounting
• Degree in Financial Management or Accounting (preferred)
• 3–4 years’ accounting experience
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience within insurance (including reinsurance)
• Strong working knowledge of financial controls, reporting, and audit processes
