JOB SUMMARY:

A leader in the supply of agricultural products and services is seeking a dynamic Technical Manager to provide technical leadership to agents, customers and company representatives with the aim to contribute to the strategic management of the company’s technical environment and to the company’s overall business position.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Minimum requirements for the role:

Must have a BSc or MSc in Agriculture
Minimum 5 Years’ experience in the Crop Protection Industry is essential
Previous experience within trials, technical and crop support as well as product Development would be ideal
Understanding of experimentation, statistics and report writing will be required
Good communication skills, specifically in English and Afrikaans, with the ability to interface with internal and external stakeholders of all levels, will be required
Must have a valid driver’s license and be willing to travel

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

Conducting demonstration trails to make product performance comparisons and generate internal data to enable objective product choices and programmes to be made.
Collating, assimilating and disseminating technical information, best ideas and best practices across all agents.
Developing solutions for the best of the company, without a supplier’s agenda.
Generating independent, unbiased technical opinion for our agents and customers.
Facilitating crop-focus sessions in regions to share the above information with agents and customers alike.
Testing opportunities outside conventional crop protection.
Contributing to the strategic management of the company’s technical environment and to the company’s overall business position.
Contributing to the management of supplier-related issues and providing assistance with collation, assimilation, and dissemination of relevant technical information for strategic technical decisions, best ideas, and best practices across the company.
Assisting with identifying new commercial opportunities that will be of benefit to the company, including those outside conventional crop protection.
Acting as the technical reference for agents on a daily basis, to assist with product choices, programme compilation and issues of a technical nature pertaining to the agent and company business.
Facilitating comparative and demonstration trials in order to generate internal data to make objective supplier, product and program decisions.
Assisting in the planning and facilitation of internal Crop Workshops in order train agents on strategies for the coming season.
Interacting with company suppliers and their representatives on product and technical issues as well as potential opportunities for future mutual gain.
Acting as the first point of reference for issues relating to claims, product nonperformance, and finding resolutions to related problems.
Managing the channel of relevant and pertinent information to field agents.
Assisting with forecasting for product supply from strategic partners based on technical strategy rather than history-based sales to capture opportunities.
Assisting in the development of new concepts and ideas within the crop protection realm including bio-stimulants, biological solutions, and the integration of these new technologies with conventional crop protection products.
Liaising with industry organisations and roles players e.g., SAMAC, PSA, SASRI etc., on best practices, new ideas and potential threats to their industries.

Salary package, including benefits, are highly negotiable depending on experience gained
