SUMMARY:
Client in the MINING INDUSTRY requires the services of an UNIT MANAGER PROJECTS - RENEWABLE ENERGY at their plant in the West Rand as soon as possible

POSITION INFO:

The appointee should:

  • A NQF 7 qualification (Bachelor’s degree or Advance Diploma) – B.Sc or B.Eng in Engineering, Business, Environmental or Finance (Preference for Electrical Engineering)
  • At least 5 years’ experience in the development of utility-scale power projects, of which 2 years should have been at a management level or experience in a functional/specialist area.
  • Computer skills (MS Office and MS Projects).
  • Strong technical and financial knowledge of various power generation technologies, including solar PV, wind and storage.
  • Project management experience in multi-disciplinary, complex and large-scale projects, including engineering, finance, tax, legal environmental and social aspects.
  • Knowledge of the South Africa energy sector, especially policy, regulations and permitting pertaining to electricity generation and project development.
  • Have a clear security screening record.
  • Have a valid driver’s license
  • Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk based medical examination at the relevant Occupational Health Centre

Advantageous requirements:

  • Project Management Professional (PMP)Certification, MSc, or MBA
  • Negotiation experience of Electricity Supply Agreements, Power Purchase Agreements, EPC/M and/or O&M agreements

Key responsibilities:

  • Supporting the execution of our strategic energy sourcing roadmap as part of or energy and decarbonisation strategy, including the development, construction and commissioning of our c.450MW portfolio of renewable energy projects (solar and wind)
  • Manage and coordinate the project teams, systems and processes to ensure scope and timelines are adhered to and manage conflicts within the projects
  • Securing all permits, authorisations and approvals required to execute the relevant renewable energy projects (with specialist assistance as necessary)
  • Lead the required external stakeholder engagements to progress the renewable energy projects (with senior management support)
  • Evaluating, prioritising and advancing renewable energy market, project and technology opportunities based on their technical economic, environmental and social merit using
  • Developing recommendations on an appropriate electrical generation mix for the mining operations considering functional, financial and technical requirements, risk exposure and our carbon-neutrality by 2040 commitment.
  • Maintain project governance
  • Provide consulting and advisory services to relevant stakeholders effectively and timeously
  • Formulate budgets for approvals and manage the budget of our renewable energy projects
  • Cost Capital Expenditures and process Application for Financial Expenditure (AFE)
  • ESG Compliance – align to Work Gold Council (WGC) responsible mining principles and the International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM)
  • SHE Compliance – Ensuring compliance of the discipline with external (legislative, regulator, permitting) requirements and alignment to the organisational compliance requirements
  • Provide leadership and inspire team members toward high performance
  • Mentor individuals to enhance the individuals knowledge, skills, values and attitude
