Job Title Chief Operating Officer Location Head Office -- as per Operational requirements | Purpose of the Role The purpose of this role is to translate the Group Strategy into a Regional Strategy and ensure the effective implementation and execution thereof. In addition, the COO will be required to lead the General Managers in the Region towards the achievement of the Entity Strategies and optimise operational efficiency across the Region. Position in the Organisation | - Reports to CEO. Direct Reports : General Managers, Group Engineering Support, Group Risk and Assurance Specialist, Group SHEQ Specialist | Section B: Key Performance Areas Areas of Responsibility For this role, the most critical areas of responsibility are: 1. Strategic Planning and Execution 2. Operational Effectiveness and Efficiency 3. Financial Performance Management 4. Stakeholder Relationship Management 5. Team Leadership Areas of Responsibility \/ Tasks 1. Strategic Planning and Execution | - Analyse the external, internal & competitor environment and define regional strategic objectives and key results. - Market analysis and business development initiatives. - Lead and direct actions required to achieve regional objectives and key results. - Measure and track progress of regional objectives and key results against targets. - Identify potential strategic opportunities for additional value propositions and income streams. - Drive and manage change by initiating and supporting new organisational transformation initiatives where required. Section B: Key Performance Areas 2. Operational Effectiveness and Efficiency - Responsible for safety and quality of project execution. | - Contractual compliance audits - Ensure accurate and real time administration, and data capturing on relevant systems and utilisation of information for decision making. - Provide Technical advice to Project teams. - Responsible for effective resourcing of contracts. This includes special tools, critical inventory, plant and machinery and skilled staff. 3. Financial Performance Management - Lead the development of regional business plans, manage budgets, control cash flow and institute risk management processes in order to ensure the achievement of Organisational and Regional Strategy. - Monitor financial performance indicators of the region and direct performance improvement interventions when required. (Capital requirements, Cashflow, working capital and performance ratio's) - Ensure accuracy and compliance of statutory and management financial reporting for the region against Group finance policies and deadlines. - Track and approve operational expenditure against set budget. Section B: Key Performance Areas Areas of Responsibility \/ Tasks 4. Stakeholder Relations - Build and evolve the organisation culture to ensure it is aligned with key stakeholders needs. - Develop and ensure the health and longevity of key client relationships and direct commercial terms of key contracts. - Develop and ensure the health of key vendor & partnership relationships. - Establish service level agreements (SLAs) that direct the relationship and services received from Group shared services departments. - Promote initiatives to drive compliance with social corporate responsibility 5. Team Leadership - Create, maintain and evolve the organisation structure, culture and environment that can execute the strategy and deliver the desired results to all stakeholders - shareholders, customers, partners, suppliers, staff, community. - Motivate and build a culture of ownership and commitment amongst employees. - Delegates work to individuals appropriate to their knowledge, skills and experience and empowers team members with the means and authority to take decisions and act within their own area of responsibility, while remaining accountable. - Demonstrate Visible Felt Leadership by living and modelling the values of the company. - Oversee the selection, development and motivation of the General Management team to contribute effectively and efficiently to the achievement of MD's objectives. - Build effective talent pipeline that supports the achievement of a high-performance team. - Manage Team performance by setting and monitoring performance standards and taking action to correct deviations to achieve the entity objectives. Minimum Qualifications\/Certifications - Engineering degree or equivalent. - MBA or Business Management advantageous. Minimum Experience | - 10 years' experience in the mining or energy sectors. - 10 years' experience managing a team at executive level. - Track record of leading an organisation to financial success.
