POSITION INFO:

This is a senior opportunity to lead the Life Reinsurance function for a forward-thinking insurance group with a presence across South Africa and Mauritius. You'll be the strategic driver behind treaty structuring, reinsurance placement, and executive-level advisory, while guiding a team of specialists in a fast-paced and commercially driven environment.

Your work will directly influence risk appetite, capital optimisation, and profitability. You'll engage with internal stakeholders across actuarial, underwriting, and finance, and manage key reinsurer relationships across two regional markets.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead the structuring, pricing, negotiation, and placement of life reinsurance treaties
Define and execute the reinsurance strategy aligned to group business goals
Advise executive leadership on market developments and capital efficiency
Manage reinsurer relationships and collaborate cross-functionally across regions

Job Experience and Skills Required:

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Actuarial Science, Finance, or a related field
Qualifications: Qualified Actuary, CA(SA), or equivalent (advantageous)
Experience:
- Minimum 7 years in life reinsurance or insurance
- Deep experience with treaty structuring (e.g., quota share, surplus, and excess of loss)
Skills:
- Strong financial and actuarial modelling
- Negotiation and stakeholder engagement
- Commercial strategy with technical expertise
- Team leadership across multiple functions
