Our Transport/Road Freight/Logistics client based in Johannesburg East is searching for an HR Manager with specific experience in the Transport sector. We are looking for a self-reliant, efficient, and influential individual who will pride themselves in providing strategic and tactical responsibility to contribute to and deploy the company’s people strategy in the group. The incumbent will drive talent management, engagement, and cultural shift while working closely with the business leadership and the HR team to deliver and sustain growth.

Minimum requirements:

  • Relevant post-graduate qualification. Preferably a master’s degree in Industrial Psychology and registration with the HPCSA as an Industrial Psychologist
  • At least 5 years’ experience as a Human Resources Manager overseeing the generalist HR function
  • Experience in the Road Freight, Transport and Logistics industry
  • Strong IR experience which must include experience in a unionized environment
  • Highly computer literate in Microsoft Suite (especially Excel), SAGE Premier, and various HR software programs
  • Proven track record in dealing with BCEA, BBBEE, TETA, MERSETA, NBCRFLI, CCMA, IR, Unions
  • Knowledge of HR programs, processes, labor regulation, cultures in the sub-Saharan Africa region, and their application to complex organizational issues
  • Knowledge of Applicant Tracking Systems (ATSs)

What to expect:

  • As part of the regional leadership team, translate business needs to commercially driven HR action plans, and oversee the delivery
  • Build an open and inclusive environment that promotes employee excellence by driving Talent management, Succession Planning, Talent Retention, and high potential future leader identification, in close collaboration with the business leadership and HR team.
  • Support the leadership team in developing and promoting a performance-driven culture across the organization and ensuring the region has the right people in the right place at the right time.
  • Support the leadership with strategic growth objectives including M&A (due diligence, post-acquisition integration, organizational design)
  • Provide technical leadership on employee/labor relations in support of the group and drive people initiatives and programs in the group through the business leadership team
  • Promote harmonious and effective business relations with the trade unions, other IR partners, and employees generally.
  •  Consolidate sub-regional HR data and performance metrics for measuring the effectiveness of HR initiatives and function in driving organizational performance and containing costs across sub-group

Key Performance Areas:

Subordinates: IR Consultant, Training Officer, Payroll Officer, 2x Learners, and 20 indirect learners

Reporting to: Managing Director

  • Recruitment and Selection - Budgets, job profiling, vacancy alerts in line with company policy, staff take-on process, building a sound employee relations environment with all role players, reporting
  • HR Strategy - Review and implement HR strategies and initiatives aligned with the overall business strategy
  • Industrial Relations - Manage IR relationship with Unions, and IR compliance with policies and procedures. Oversee IR Lead
  • HR Management - Monitor, guide, and measure the operations of the Human Resources department, ensure service levels are maintained and improved through best practice, advise the company on NBCRFLI Main Collective Agreement and implementation thereof, and Ensure the HRIS is maintained with a logical and efficient dataset, continuously manage projects and change initiatives in the organisation at various occupational levels
  • Talent Management - Management and involvement of the company Performance Management System (PMS) & management same with the relevant managers / HODs on an ongoing basis, identify critical roles/skills, Succession planning, Personal Development plans, develop a retention strategy, manage retention strategy for company talent. 
  • Training & Development - Needs Analysis process with relevant Managers, Manage and facilitate WPSP & WPSR on an ongoing basis, Review Training & Development Processes in relation to Operational Strategy annually, ensure accurate record keeping and alignment with BEE – Skills Development spend, Ensure the relevant SETA Grant applications are done in time, Budget relevant Training and Development and report on Actual spent vs plan quarterly.
  • Transformation and Employment Equity - Develop, implement, and monitor EE Plans, submission of Annual EE Reports etc.
  • Employee Engagement - Pre-boarding / induction of new staff etc.
  • Payroll - Manage and oversee the payroll administrator, Authorize and verify payroll input weekly and monthly.  Full function of the EXEC payroll
