Legal Compliance / Customs & Trade Governance Specialist

Our client, a leading project-driven business operating across Southern Africa, is seeking an experienced and commercially minded Legal Compliance / Customs & Trade Governance Specialist to manage and oversee all customs, international trade compliance, and cross-border logistics governance activities.
 
This is a highly specialised role suited to a candidate with strong knowledge of customs legislation, import/export compliance, and African cross-border operations within construction, engineering, mining, infrastructure, or large project environments.
 
Key Responsibilities

• Manage customs and international trade compliance across imports, exports, re-exports, and temporary imports
• Provide advisory support on customs legislation, VAT, excise, exchange control, and trade regulations
• Oversee import/export documentation including tariff classifications, permits, customs declarations, invoices, and shipping documentation
• Manage temporary import processes for equipment, plant, and vehicles, including acquittals, renewals, guarantees, and re-export compliance

• Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Commerce, Law, or related field
• Strong knowledge of customs and international trade regulations
• Proven experience in cross-border logistics and trade compliance
• Strong understanding of temporary imports and African border operations
• Ability to interpret contracts and provide regulatory guidance
