POSITION INFO:

An exciting opportunity exists for a technically strong Senior Pricing Actuary / Actuarial Data Scientist to join a forwardâthinking analytics and actuarial function. This role is suited to someone who enjoys solving complex business problems through pricing model development, advanced statistical modelling, and machineâlearning-driven optimization.

The opportunity to work with cuttingâedge modelling tools, lead highâimpact analytical projects, and deepen your expertise in pricing, capital, and risk modelling across a dynamic and innovative actuarial environment.

Key Responsibilities

Build and refine pricing models from first principles, ensuring technical accuracy and commercial relevance.
Apply advanced modelling techniques, including GLMs, machine learning, decision trees, gradient boosting, XGBoost, and ensemble methods.
Develop and enhance pricing and risk models using Python, R, SQL, Emblem, Radar, ResQ, and other actuarial platforms.
Implement model automation and contribute to deployment pipelines.
Translate complex analytical outputs into actionable business insights for senior decisionâmakers.
Support pricing, reserving, capital, or risk analytics (depending on the candidate’s core experience).
Work within regulatory frameworks, with exposure to SAM or IFRS 17 considered advantageous.

Job Experience and Skills Required

Education:

Nearly qualified actuary (minimum 10 actuarial exams completed)
BSc Actuarial Science / Honours in Actuarial Science / related quantitative discipline
Membership with a recognized professional body (ASSA or IFoA)

Experience:

5+ years actuarial or data science experience in pricing, risk, or analytics
Clear understanding of actuarial domains: pricing vs reserving vs capital
Proven experience building pricing models from scratch
Demonstrated ability to quantify model impact on business performance

Technical Skills:

Advanced modelling experience: GLMs, decision trees, XGBoost, gradient boosting, ensemble models
Strong use of Python libraries such as: pandas, scikitâlearn, XGBoost
Essential experience in Emblem (pricing software)
Proficiency in: Python, R, SQL, Power BI, Emblem, Radar, ResQ
Experience with Earnix is an advantage
Understanding of model automation, deployment, and machineâlearning workflows

Soft Skills:

Excellent analytical and problemâsolving capability
Strong commercial acumen with the ability to translate analytics into business outcomes
Confident communication skills with the ability to influence and guide stakeholders
