Commercial Sales Manager

SUMMARY:
Experienced Commercial Sales Manager with a head for business to head up the Sales department of this successful international Manufacturing company based in NSub of Cape Town.

POSITION INFO:
Proudly South African, manufacture company for FMCG clients across South Africa and internationally. The Opportunity This is a high-impact role for a commercially sharp, technically curious individual who wants to grow into owning the company's sales function. You will be the bridge between our clients, our production team, and our technical specialists - managing existing South African accounts, developing new business, and progressively taking on international client relationships. You will be mentored directly by the CEO and set up for long-term growth within the business. This is not a traditional sales role - it requires genuine commercial thinking, product knowledge, and the ambition to lead. Key Responsibilities Client Relationship Management: • Own and manage South African commercial entity and FMCG client accounts • Build trusted, long-term relationships with client procurement, production, and technical teams • Handle day-to-day client communication, quotations, orders, and issue resolution professionally and promptly • Ensure client satisfaction and proactively identify upsell and retention opportunities Commercial & Technical Bridge: • Develop deep knowledge of the company''s product range and manufacturing capabilities • Translate client specifications and challenges into clear briefs for our technical and production teams • Accompany the CEO on key client visits and progressively take over relationship ownership • Prepare accurate commercial proposals, pricing, and contracts with an understanding of margin and value New Business Development: • Identify and qualify new business and FMCG prospects in South Africa • Support the CEO in export lead management, progressively owning international client accounts after handover • Research and engage target sectors - scale up clients Reporting & Systems: • Maintain accurate records of client interactions, pipeline, and forecasts in the company CRM • Provide regular sales reporting to the CEO on account health, pipeline status, and risks • Collaborate with Finance on invoicing, credit terms, and payment follow-up where required What We're Looking For: Qualifications: • Bachelor's degree in Business Science, Commerce, Industrial Engineering, or related field - essential • Postgraduate qualification or MBA is advantageous but not required Experience: • 3-6 years in B2B sales, technical sales, or key account management • Experience in food manufacturing, packaging, coatings, capital equipment, or industrial supply is advantageous • Demonstrated ability to manage complex client relationships and close commercial deals • Exposure to a manufacturing or production environment - you need to understand how things are made Personal Profile: • Strong ownership mindset - you take responsibility, follow through, execute • Commercially sharp - you understand margins, can read a P&L, and write a compelling proposal • Technically curious - you enjoy understanding products at a deep level • Excellent communicator - clear written and verbal, confident in client-facing environments • Ambitious - you want to grow into a leadership role, not just maintain a patch • High energy and commitment when it counts - We are a performance culture • Cape Town-based and willing to travel locally and internationally as required This is an amazing opportunity if you enjoy being in a successful business, adding value with your Commercial and Sales experience, coupled with your head for business.
