SUMMARY:

Senior Actuarial Analyst

A wellâestablished life insurance provider is looking to appoint a Senior Actuarial Analyst to join its Life Actuarial team based in Johannesburg North. This opportunity is ideal for a nearly or newly qualified Actuary who combines strong technical ability with commercial insight and is ready to take ownership of actuarial models while supporting the development of junior team members.
The role offers involvement across the full actuarial control cycle, exposure to senior leadership, and the chance to influence pricing, profitability, and strategic initiatives within a stable, forwardâlooking organisation.

POSITION INFO:

Key Responsibilities:

Develop, implement, and maintain life insurance actuarial and pricing models across the full actuarial control cycle
Drive model and system enhancements, including scenario, sensitivity, and impact analysis
Analyse and communicate insights related to pricing, profitability, policy growth, VNB, and embedded value
Validate, reconcile, and interpret data from multiple sources to ensure integrity and accuracy
Track and assess business performance indicators and identify emerging trends
Collaborate with senior stakeholders to support strategic and commercial decisionâmaking
Identify and implement process improvements, automation opportunities, and innovative solutions
Maintain high standards of governance, documentation, and regulatory compliance
Provide coaching, mentoring, and technical oversight to junior actuarial analysts, contributing to team development and succession planning

Job Experience and Skills Required:

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field
Nearly or newly qualified Actuary (minimum of 12 actuarial exam passes)

Experience:

Minimum of 3 years’ actuarial experience within financial services or the insurance industry (essential)

Skills:

Strong actuarial modelling and analytical expertise
Proven experience in pricing, profitability, and experience analysis
Excellent documentation and process governance capabilities
Ability to translate complex technical output into clear business insight
Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
Capability and interest in coaching and mentoring junior team members
