POSITION INFO:
Our client is a payments solutions business on a mission to help entrepreneurs participate and prosper in the digital economy. They solve critical payments challenges for South African businesses and individuals, enabling quick, low-cost transactions that form the financial lifeline of the economy. This is not a traditional Head of Sales role. The successful candidate will be accountable for formulating and executing the customer growth strategy in a unique market space. They will lead a high-performing, independent-thinking sales force, analyse the competitor landscape and market trends, and drive long-term growth through data-driven insights and cross-functional collaboration. They will define winning strategies, identify expansion opportunities, and integrate data and processes that meet business needs across their area of influence. Key responsibilities Formulate and execute customer growth strategy, informed by a deep understanding of market trends, customer preferences, and competitor activities Lead, develop, and manage a high-performing sales team; provide clear direction, set priorities, and inspire the team to achieve strategic goals Build and manage influential relationships with key customers and suppliers at all levels; develop strategies to win in the market Set clear performance metrics, track sales performance, and implement corrective measures to ensure sales targets are met or exceeded Participate in sales sector assessment planning and the preparation of incentive plans; improve the sales sector management system Work with the Decision Analytics team to create data-driven recommendations by accessing, analysing, and synthesising large data sets Lead end-to-end project management on top business priorities: identify opportunities, scope projects, and drive cross-functional implementation Foster a supportive and inclusive work environment where team members feel empowered to share ideas and take risks Analyse the competitive landscape and integrate insights into sales strategy to keep ahead of market movement Requirements Proven track record leading high-performing sales teams Demonstrated experience in customer relationship management and relationship-building at all levels Strong analytical and data-driven decision-making skills; proficiency in data analysis tools and reporting Expertise in setting performance metrics and tracking sales performance Strategic thinking and effective problem-solving capabilities Strong project management and organisational skills Ability to utilise analytical software and sales tools Knowledge of customer financial drivers and business needs Capacity to think creatively and develop innovative sales approaches Entrepreneurial mindset with strong business acumen and ethics Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills; ability to present and influence at all levels Commitment to staying updated on industry trends, sales techniques, and best practices Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in business administration, sales, or a related field Our client is looking for a leader who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and is driven by the mission to support entrepreneurship in South Africa.
