IT Head - Sugar Factory

Overview 

My Client, a leading professionally managed industrial/service group, engaged in diverse operations, seeks to employ an IT Manager for its Sugar Factory in Uganda.

This is a senior position responsible for the overall operation of the physical network, virtual infrastructure, and the complete IT team of the company.

The company has implemented a Dell Vmware ESXi7 virtual infrastructure over an extensive fiber network with over 400 users. Application servers run Solaris 10 and Windows server.

Requirements:

The candidate should be B. Tech. / M. Tech. (Computer Science / IT) with at least 10+ years experience in a similar capacity out of which 5 years as the head of the IT department, preferably with process industry experience. An ideal candidate will have a strong practical background in implementing and managing physical networks, Vmware with a working knowledge of Solaris. He/She must have the ability to manage a team, train others and communicate well.

Duties and Responsibilities 

Reporting to the Director of Finance, the incumbent will be responsible for:

• Overall accountability for the day-to-day operation and update of the complete IT infrastructure (network, server, and storage) - System uptime.
• Manage, develop and train the IT team. Propose relevant training in line with company objectives.
• Running regular checks on security, network, as well as disaster recovery/backup systems.
• Identifying and acting on opportunities to improve and update software and systems.
• Developing and ensuring IT policies, data security policies, and best practice guides for the organization are up to date and enforced.
• Creating and maintaining all documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs): Creating and maintaining COP documents.
• Preparing, managing, and reporting on the allocation of the IT annual budget and ensuring cost-effectiveness.
• Conducting regular system audits and reviews with internal as well as external auditors.
• Preparing and sharing regular operation reports with senior staff.
• Overseeing the implementation of major IT projects, system updates, upgrades, migrations, performance tuning, etc.
• Lead any troubleshooting
• Identify problematic areas and implement strategic solutions on time.
• Maintain IT operations, including operating systems, security tools, applications, servers, email systems, laptops, desktops, software, and hardware.
• Evaluate emerging technologies, hardware, and software.
• Track and maintain hardware and software inventory.
• Drive the adoption of automation and end-to-end solutions with the team, with a focus on continuous improvements.
